The Area Chart is ideal for displaying quantitative data and showing trends over time, particularly when demonstrating the magnitude of change.

Navigation to Create/Edit an Area Chart:

  1. Access the Dashboard:
    • Navigate to the dashboard where you intend to add or edit a metric card.
  2. Create or Edit a Metric Card:
    • For a new chart, click on "Create Metric" in the desired dashboard.
    • To edit an existing chart, open the metric card you wish to modify.
  3. Choose Chart Type:
    • In the metric editing interface, locate the "Chart Type" selector.
    • Select "Area" from the available chart types.

Customizing the Area Chart:

Under the "Appearance" tab, the following customizations can be applied to the Area Chart:

  • Hide 0/null Values: Opt to exclude areas representing zero or null values.
  • Enable Dynamic Behavior: Allow the chart to dynamically adjust and display data based on interactions.
  • Enable Chart Zoom: Provide the ability to zoom into specific sections of the chart for a more detailed view.

In addition to these appearance options, you can also set up actions for the chart under the "Actions" tab, as well as customize various aspects of the "Appearance" tab. For more detailed information on both appearance customization and setting up chart actions, please refer to Chart Appearance and Chart Actions.

The Area Chart offers a visually compelling way to illustrate the volume beneath the line, making it easier to understand the weight of each data point in the context of the whole.
